A humid subtropical climate, Osaka has four distinct seasons with mild winters, very hot humid summers, and a rainy season that usually lasts from May or early June until mid-July. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant times to visit, and they are also the times when cherry blossoms bloom and the autumn colors appear, respectively. They are rarely earthquakes in Osaka, typhoons generally don’t come close enough to pose any directly threat, and there are no active volcanoes in or near Osaka that pose any danger.

Four Seasons

■ Spring (March - May)
Pack lightweight jackets and sweaters.

■ Summer (June - August)
From the middle of June to July is tsuyu, the rainy season, so be sure to pack rain-wear.

■ Autumn (September - November)
Mild temperatures and wonderful afternoon light. Bring light jackets and sweaters, perhaps a light scarf as well.

■ Winter (December - February)
Winter can be quite cold, and snow falls only a few days of the year. Nevertheless, pack warm coats and sweaters, jackets, scarves, and gloves.
